Aims & Scope
sustain, the Journal of Sustainability and Futures in Music Education, aims to help shape the present and therefore promotes academic discussion about a sustainable and participatory society and cultural diversity. In addition, the formulation of possible implications for the future is actively encouraged in order to contribute to a scientific foundation for music education futurology.
The Editors Board aims to critically scrutinize publication and peer review formats as well as publication ethics issues on an ongoing basis, to draw on social and technological transformations and to understand Open Science as part of scientific quality assurance.
sustain is located at the intersection of music education, cultural studies and futurology. The aim is to
- understand current trends in music cultures in the context of global challenges and transforming political, economic, ecological, technological and social conditions,
- relate these to current conceptions of music education and educational theory,
- to design possible futures of music cultures, including learning and educational cultures, and in doing so
- to publish innovative practices and approaches that build bridges between music education and other disciplines and research fields and contribute to shaping a sustainable future.
The target audience includes music educators from various contexts (e.g., school, music school and university practice, cultural education, research...) as well as those interested in learning and educational theory perspectives on music cultures from other fields of research, e.g. futurology, popular music research, biography research, discourse research. The aim is to promote an interdisciplinary perspective on music education.
